Being a leader isn't about being the loudest one in the room.
Actually, in my experience, the loudest person is usually the most insecure, and should not hold a leadership title.... but that's for another post...
If you want to be a good leader, you have to hear what others are saying. And you can't do that if you're too busy doing the talking....
Between running thousands of groups and having thousands and thousands of one on ones over the years, the best sessions are the ones where I speak very little....
My job, as is any leader's job, is to facilitate the conversation and help guide people.
Guide them.
Sometimes that requires hard questions.
Sometimes that requires hard truths.
Sometimes that's giving direction.
Sometimes a gentle nudge.
Sometimes permission.
But always LISTENING.
